Encapsulation of patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth), nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), and citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) essential oil using a combination of coating materials with complex coacervation method

Abstract Essential oils containing volatile aromatic compounds generally have the ability as antioxidants and antibacterial. By nature, they are easily degraded because of oxygen, light, high temperatures, so need to be encapsulated. This study aimed analyze effect type essential combination coating materials on physicochemical characteristics oil microcapsules. used a Randomized Block Design method with two factors, namely factor ( Pogostemon cablin Benth, Myristica fragrans Houtt, Cymbopogon nardus (L) Rendle), material (gelatin + maltodextrin, gelatin gum arabic, whey protein isolate arabic). The analysis carried out included encapsulation efficiency functional groups using FTIR. particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential were selected microcapsules based results analysis. showed that nutmeg maltodextrin had values 82.43% 74.06% higher compared other treatments. Nutmeg tended large sizes. small size arabic 90.39 d.nm, index 0.639, (-)38.9 mV. three types O-H alcohol groups, C-H alkynes, C=C aromatics.
